Sir Bobby Robson
Sir Bobby Robson was born February 1933 in Sacriston, County Durham and then moved to Langley Park.
In 1950 he joined Fulham where he made 152 appearances, scoring 68 goals before moving to West Brom scoring 56 goals in 239 games. During this time he played for England in the World Cup in Sweden. He won 20 caps for his country and one Under-23 cap.
In 1962, he rejoined Fulham, making 193 appearances and scoring nine goals. In 1967 he left Fulham to join the Vancouver Whitecaps as Manager returning to Fulham in 1968 to take over a Manager but leaving there in November of the same year.
In 1969 he began a tremendously successful spell as Manager of Ipswich, winning the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981.
In 1982 he was appointed Manager of England and in 1986 had the disappointment of seeing his side go down to Argentina in the World Cup Quarter Finals thanks to the hand of Maradona.
In 1990, he steered England to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Italy loosing to West Germany on penilties. Sir Bobby then began his courtship with Europe, taking over as Manager of PSV Eindhoven who, under his Managership, won the Dutch league in 1991 and 1992.
He left PSV to take up the job as manager of FC Porto and took them to the Portugese cup in 1994 and league title in 1995 and 1996.
In 1996 he moved to Barcelona and managed them in the European Cup Winners Cup & Spanish Cup. In 1998 he rejoined PSV as coach.
On September 3, 1999 he was appointed Manager of Newcastle and, as they say, the rest is history.
