Peaches - Ice Dancing

Peaches applied to the Foundation for a grant. The Trustees offered her this and as you can see from this profile from her Aunt has sent us she is fulfilling her promise.

Peaches has moved up a group this year last year she was in Juniors and she is now skating in Intermediates so she is also skating against girls 2 years older than her so we were unsure how she would do especially as it was her GCSE year at school.  There are 8 Qualifiers for the British Championships so a maximum of 16 qualify and you can keep doing the qualifiers until or if you qualify but Peaches did the 1st qualifier and qualified straight away so we only had to do the 1st one, the other girls at the Ice rink we use failed to qualify.  Peaches then did the Welsh Championships so she is the Welsh Ladies Intermediate Champion and got good feedback from the referee who told her she had never seen her skate so well and wished her good luck for the British Championships which take place 17th July in Nottingham. Peaches trained last week in Murrayfield in Scotland alongside the British Champions John and Sinead Kerr who offered her guidance and she also took part in a workshop that her coach was running in Scotland along with the Technical Director of the National Ice Skating Association. She has also arranged to try out after the Championships with a boy in Oxford who is considering moving to Manchester to skate with her, he seems to be of a similar standard and also very committed.  Peaches' coach Joan Slater has just been awarded the MBE.

A Program called Welcome to My World will feature Peaches.  The Program is due to be shown on Channel 4 on 17th September (Provisional Date)

Lewis - Cricket (Updated 8th October 07)

Lewis is a 14 year old cricketer, who wrote to the Foundation asking for help with the purchase of cricket equipment. He is the captain of the St.Helens cricket team he plays for in his age group. This is a wonderful achievement considering he has only been with them for 3 years. He has also being chosen to travel to Singapore to play several games over there, good luck to you Lewis. Most families do their best for their children, sometimes these limits are stretched, and this is where the Foundation can help. Lewis’s family continue to offer all they can to aid Lewis progress and give continued support. The Foundation contacted Lancashire County Cricket Club with a view to giving Lewis his grant at one of their games. We are pleased to say that Lancashire CCC supported our request and invited the whole of Lewis’s family to one of their matches. The whole family were treated to a ground tour, lunch and for Lewis a presentation of a goody bag from the Lancashire players. Dickie also made a presentation of the grant to Lewis. This grant allowed him to purchase all the kit and equipment he needed from the LCCC shop on the day. Dickie went along with Lewis to the shop to offer his expert advice. The Foundation strive to help youngster like Lewis, all sports are considered not just cricket. Lewis’s family still keep in touch with the Foundation, to pass on updates of Lewis’s progress. The Foundation wishes Lewis’s and his family all the good fortune for the future.

Update: Lewis has been chosen for district trials and has won some medals from his side the season (Most improved Bowler and for a 4 Wicket Haul).

Are you the next Lewis, se the grant guidance notes to find if you can be considered for a grant?
